Shower Program

Every Saturday, 7:30am-noon, St. Luke’s continues to provide showers, clothing, and food for approximately 100 of our un-housed neighbors. Our program was able to stay open each week throughout the pandemic due to the dedication of volunteers, and the willingness of the guests to mask.

In April & May, 2021, we hosted Covid-19 vaccinations for homeless and the community provided by the Children’s Clinic. Approximately 80 people were vaccinated

Our community partners provide a meal each Saturday. Other services include a barber, dental hygienist, a community gardening project which guests can join, and we provide a safe place to leave belongings and charge phones during the morning.

To learn more or to volunteer:

Volunteers are welcome on an appointment basis, as we have teams set up for each week, and must fit volunteers into available jobs. A commitment to one Saturday a month is ideal, but substitutes are always needed.

Contact Gail Mutke at gamutke@verizon.net or 562 439-9496 to volunteer.

Clothing donations - casual only NO DRESS CLOTHES:

For the near future, we are requesting only the following items:

Men’s casual pants, jackets, sweatshirts, boxer or boxer briefs, size M-L-XL, casual shoes size 10 & larger, caps or hats

Women’s panties sizes 5-10, bras, socks, yoga-type or stretch pants, jackets & sweatshirts, casual shoes size 8-10.

Other donations:

We are always in need of blankets, sleeping bags, backpacks, rolling suitcases, plastic grocery bags (folded). NO household items, please.

Donations can be brought to the Shower area on Thursdays 9-11, or on Sunday morning to a donation box in the narthex (entrance) of the church. Do not leave donations outside or in hallways.

Volunteer

  • How can I volunteer?

We accept volunteer help at many of our ministries. A list of our ministries can be found in our Annual Report beginning on page 14. If you would like to learn more about a ministry, please contact the person listed in the annual report under that ministry.

  • Can I bring friends to volunteer with me?

Yes - just as we worship together, we do God's work together.

  • Do you need to be a member of the church to volunteer?

No- all are welcome to help our work in the world, regardless of if they are Epsicopalian or not.
